The order of things:

Selecting this puzzle - when I saw Parkside View I fell in love with the artwork. My first criteria from the start of this hobby at the end of 2021, has been “Can I sort this?” Frankly, I wanted this beautiful puzzle; I think I convinced myself the answer was “Yes!” I finished this puzzle on the fourth day, but probably put in more hours than other 1000 piece puzzles I have completed over 5 or more days. Yes, I am slow, but I don’t mind that as long as I see progress. And, if it hadn’t been for meticulous sorting it would have taken way more time.

Sorting - I have adopted most of the Puzzle Hobby method, sort by color and collect the edge pieces, build the frame, sub-sort. I do not have the space to lay out all the pieces by color density, and shape, as is shown on this site. So, I use trays to sub sort by area of color on the puzzle, and try to sort out objects when possible. Uh huh, for this puzzle I sorted the sky, parts of buildings that had sky, the buildings, the walkway, the green grass, and the 40 plus trees and bushes. Yes, it takes a lot of time, but once done, I feel confident about the actual construction.

Where to begin - well, there were a few obvious pieces I could attach to the frame that I found while sub sorting. After that, I was going to start with the sky, but there wasn’t very much variation in shades of color. I found the pieces for the moon, and rethought the sky. What about the walkway, I could build off of it? No, the trees got in the way of that! So, I decided to build out from the frame - tree, by tree, by bush, by tree. That’s where all that sorting really helped. No, I do not have 50 trays! Those sub sorts end up in piles. But, easy enough to pick a pile, sort it by piece shape, put it together, and place it where it belongs.

Take a break! - As well as it was going, I did take a lot of breaks, but never felt defeated by the task at hand. I was having fun! A lot of other things fell into place as those bushes and trees took root. I did not consider the buildings or sky until everything else was complete. By then most buildings had a foundation, and they all were skyscrapers ahead of schedule; the sky no longer looked so daunting.

Placing the very last piece - the ultimate joy, especially when the only one left makes the puzzle complete. That was the case here. No missing pieces! I have come to realize what a difference it makes to the resulting level of satisfaction when you look at your effort and have to say, “I’m done but the puzzle is not!”

Assessing the quality of the puzzle - My third Galison puzzle; my overall assessment remains the same - excellent. Their boxes are solid, small and attractive. There is a poster included. As for this puzzle, neither the cut off box cover pic nor the poster had great color match, but not off so much as to be useless. There is also a small complete pic on the box bottom. The pieces are in a sealed plastic bag. They are sturdy and somewhat glossy. There was no puzzle dust, no pieces were still together, none were damaged in any way. The piece fit was tight - rare these days across brands. When completed I picked the puzzle up off the board with no consequence.

Final thoughts - Of the 29 puzzles I have now done, this is the first one that I would consider gluing, framing and hanging up. Isn’t it lovely? My passion prior to discovering puzzling was reading. Relating it to puzzles I say “I don’t re-read books, I probably wouldn’t replay a puzzle.” So to go back in the box, I took it apart in sections just in case I decided to glue it. This puzzle was in no way easy. If you are really new to puzzles I would recommend the 500 piece Rainbow Popsicles which was satisfyingly easy, or the 1000 piece Ideal Bookshelf, also very doable. Both Galison puzzles are very colorful and fun!

My ratings: Quality A+, Fun Factor A+ ETA: I did it, and without gluing!
