I did my usual sorting routine.

  1. Sorting to locate all  the outside border pieces, while....
  2. Placing the pieces into the 'general-color' piles.
  3. Then I carried on with a second round of sorting (similar colors sorted by shades/patterns) while placing the pieces flat out on the poster boards.

The border was not to be completed at the beginning this time due to the puzzle shapes - it would get worked in during progress however it turned out to be one of the very last pieces to be assembled.

I just did not really know where to start with this one and eventually chose red and then the yellow striped reds. I also found myself building 'cookie-eyes' on the puzzle piece layout boards.

It was very tricky to match up the teeth and mouths. There were so many lines and squiggles, curls and flowers. The decor was so various. Often I would look for a colored flower and could not locate it. Many of the cookies had various color combinations.

Looking at the work-in-progress images below you can see the fragments of the individual Sugar Skull Cookies forming into the jigsaw puzzle image.

The matte finish is always nice on these puzzles. As is the cut and quality of Cobble Hill jigsaw puzzles. When I first opened the box on this one, I noted the pieces to be slightly different than The Zodiac and Feelin' Smurfy.

These pieces seem to have a very sharp cut and firm board material...almost a snappy feel to them. Then when I started to assemble them, I noted the pieces to be a tad loose compared to the other 2 puzzles sent for review. Was the cut too precise and sharp maybe? I hope this is just a 'one-off' situation indeed.

In the end, as you can see in the close up photos, the pieces do fit perfectly smooth together which complement the extremely patient production of these Sugar Skull Cookies to form a terrific jigsaw puzzle for Halloween.

I highly recommend this jigsaw puzzle but be prepared to give it your full attention when assembling - besides, that's good therapy for you anyways!
