Gibbs Smith, Day of the Dead, 27 1⁄2" x 19 1⁄2" 1,000 pieces
#9, October 10, 2017 --- on the countdown to my birthday, tee hee!

For those not in the know, Dia de Muertos is a 3 day holiday that encompasses All Hallow's Eve (Oct 31), All Saint's Day (Nov 1) and All Soul's Day (Nov 2). Traditions connected with the holiday include building private altars called ofrendas, honoring the deceased using calaveras (decorative or sugar skulls), aztec marigolds, and the favorite foods and beverages of the departed, and visiting graves with these as gifts. Visitors also leave possessions of the deceased at the graves.

Some of my fave puzzles are ones that feature ethnic traditions or traditional ethnic costumes so I really love this one. If I have time, I will be doing another 1,000 piece calaveras puzzle that is pretty hilarious.

Halloween Contest 2017
by: Linda Richard - Admin

Now there is a lot of Halloween going on there Julie. This is a super fun entry. Lots of details and colors.

Thank you for the extra information about Halloween night too...I always find 'tid bits' such as that to be interesting.

I kinda knew about the 3 days but not much more than that so the details you shared were very informative. I have to wonder if someone ever made a Thriller movie about those 3 days. I don't watch thrillers which is why I am asking.

AND it sounds like you have more of this Halloween theme coming into the contest so we look forward to seeing them soon.

Thanks again and happy puzzling.....
