My Confident Puzzler Difficulty Rating: Medium

Well, this was fun! It took quite a bit of time for a 600 piece puzzle. The only illustration is a nice size, but relative to the puzzle size, it took some adjustment to match piece design to illustration location.

Quality: there were some issues. The piece fit was very loose. The backing paper was pealing or hanging from several pieces. No pieces were otherwise damaged, together uncut, or missing. The box top has the full illustration. It was sturdier than the box bottom. Inside there was only the sealed bag of pieces. Piece colors were true to the illustration.

Getting started: Find the edge pieces and sort by color. Thank goodness the edge of the contiguous 48 states were clearly defined! Alaska and Hawaii were on the quilt. I did sort that separately - the quilters, the quilt background, and Alaska. As for sorting the rest - no, I was not going to individually sort each of the remaking states! I laid out those pieces in no particular order in one layer, While doing that, I did group some of the more recognizable designs. After a while it became fairly easy to peruse the rows and find what I was looking for.

Construction: I built the quilt and quilters first. I considered building the frame, but passed on that idea. There is one oddity in the white edge. Between the ocean borders of Oregon and California, the illustration shows the edge pieces following the ins and outs of the coastline, not the fat bulge as in the photo above. At any rate, I added edge pieces bit by bitt as the states came together. After Louisiana, Florida, Maine, Washington and Montana, I really don’t remember the build order by state. Texas came toward the end. The completed puzzle certainly makes a statement on my puzzle board!

I’ve done several SunsOut puzzles. They have a large selection and a lot of fun and interesting illustrations. No quality issues kept me from purchasing more - price point is good. Worst was a missing piece, one was too pixelated. In both issues, replacements were awarded. The brand is worth checking out,

My grades: Quality B+, Fun Factor A
