My confident puzzler difficulty rating: easy as (apple) pie

I am a slow puzzler, I don’t race to get one done. This time I happened to look at the clock when I was unwrapping this little germ, so I puzzled as usual but checked the time when I finished.

From shrink wrap to last piece it was 40 minutes. So, if you are itching to do some puzzling and only have an hour, 100 piece puzzles could be the solution! The puzzling process is always the same, it clears the mind and offers calm. Maybe your last puzzle was a challenging achievement and you just want a simple puzzling fix. Uh huh - 100 pieces of that thing we do to relax could be the answer.

Quality: Almost perfect. The piece fit is loose but not a big deal with so few pieces. Otherwise all good. The sturdy, tiny, travel size box has the full illustration on the top. Color match to the piece was excellent. Inside was a sealed bag of pieces. There was no puzzle dust. The pieces are practically matte, none were damaged or together uncut and none were missing.

Getting started: Find the edge pieces and sort by color. I turned all the pieces right side up, pulled out the edge pieces and grouped the signage, the sky, the wheat, the flag, the face and the dress. Okay, yes I sorted the tiny puzzle, it didn’t too long.

Construction: I built the frame and filled it in from the top. There’s not much else to say beyond having 40 minutes of relaxing calm and a framable example of my favorite hobby. Why not? These little puzzles, that come in so many categories and designs, have a real presence when completed. They need to be taped from the back because of loose piece fit, but there are actually ready made 9” X 7” frames.

Final thoughts: I wish I could tell you more than the description given by NYC Puzzle Company: “From an early 20th century cover of Sunset Magazine, a young woman dressed in patriotic stars and stripes, offers a sheaf of American wheat to the world for Thanksgiving.” In the lower corner of the graphic it says “For a World of Thanksgiving.” So I googled all the references I could think of. I learned a lot about the magazine, I learned that in the USA, Kansas is the top wheat producer, I learned that other countries celebrate a Thanksgiving, and I saw 125 years of Sunset covers, but not this one!

What I do know for sure is having 100 piece puzzles as part of one’s stash is a good idea.

My grades: Quality A-, Fun Factor A+
