Breezin’ Along (Art by Charles Wysocki) Buffalo Games
Ribbon Cut
300 Large Pieces
Finished Dimension: 18” Square
My Confident Puzzler Difficulty Rating: Not at all hard
I spent enough time on this 300 piece puzzle to not rate it totally easy. It was, however, totally satisfying fun.
Quality: Almost Perfect. Piece fit was a bit loose; puzzle pick up was a fail. Okay — Buffalo boxes have no shrink wrap. The sides of the top and bottom are glued shut. When separating them, some cardboard is damaged. It does not show when the box is closed. If a pristine box is important, that is also a fail. Otherwise it was great! The full illustration is on the box top. The pieces are loose inside the small sturdy box. A poster is included. Color match to the graphics is excellent. There was no puzzle dust. The solid pieces have a low sheen. None were damaged or together uncut and none were missing.
Getting started: Find the edge pieces and sort by color. I found myself sorting out objects - the US flag, the dark blue sky, the clouds, the large boat and people, the small boat, the masts, the sails, the golden waves, the blue waves and various ropes.
Construction: I built the frame first and filled in from bottom to top. Mostly I pieced using color clues. Lastly, I sorted the cloud pieces by shape - piecing them took the most time.
Final thoughts: Charles Wysocki is a prolific artist whose works are featured in hundreds of puzzles. Many are landscapes or country scenes, unfortunately not illustrations I enjoy as puzzles. This one fit my preferred style - a central feature and large areas of similar color or textures. I would have been quite tempted by a larger piece count, but 300 pieces is the only offering for Breezin’ Along.
My grades: Quality A-, Fun Factor A+
