My (advancing) Newbie difficulty rating: Medium

Classic nostalgia — at least if you were growing up in the 1960’s and later. “Archie himself debuted in December 1941, in Pep Comics No. 22. But it was the visual aesthetic first established by artist Dan DeCarlo in the late 1950s that ultimately defined the look of Archie Comics for the next half a century.”

Fun, colorful collage style puzzle to build. No fault quality except for loose piece fit. The sturdy but oversized box includes a poster and a sealed bag of pieces. The somewhat glossy pieces are also sturdy, none were damaged in any way and none were missing. There was a small amount of puzzle dust. Color match of pic to piece was excellent.

Construction: Find the edge pieces and sort by color. I also sorted out the pieces that looked to be a part of the big Archie. The frame was quite straightforward to build and offered a lot of color information. I then sub sorted out each vignette, including the dot for the big “i” in Archie.. While doing that, I was able to piece together some sections. It also left me with very few just background pieces. You might be wondering if that took a lot of time. Yes. But I’m slow. Also, I’m not that fond of sorting, but I do it to make the actual construction as satisfying and fun as possible. In this case, because of loose piece fit, moving the sections was not quite as much fun - they did fall apart. Oh well. In the end, I actually put it all together, leaving the big Archie for last. In my humble opinion, that was a good move. Only a few of the pieces I had set aside belonged elsewhere in the puzzle.

Collage is not my favorite style, but I had fun building this puzzle. Trust me, that says a lot! I purchased Classic Archie quite a while ago, before I knew what my preferred style would be. I guess I should have figured that out more quickly, since, coincidentally, the very first puzzle I did to start this hobby into 9 months ago now, was this one . . .

Only 500 pieces, but with large areas of similar color, a challenge for a newbie. I was on my way, so much fun, and so happy with my achievement. Since then, puzzles with an illustration, but with large areas of similar color, have been the ones I have enjoyed the most. I find that challenge to be the most puzzling fun. Don’t ask me why. I know a lot of puzzlers would not think so. Yes, it takes time, and often I’m forced to do it piece, by piece, but it is no more time than what I’ve spent sorting out and building a “busy” puzzle. And, of course, a puzzle with fewer colors means less initial sorting. There will always be some sub sorting. (Smile)

There are 4 Cobble Hill Archie puzzles in the collection. I can highly recommend taking a trip down memory lane.

My grades: Quality A- (for loose piece fit), Fun Factor A (for Amazing!)

Another notable feature of Cobble Hill puzzles is their commitment to sustainability. The company uses recycled and biodegradable materials in their puzzle production, and they also use vegetable-based inks in their printing process. Additionally, they donate puzzles to nursing homes and Alzheimer's facilities to help individuals with cognitive challenges.

In terms of pricing, Cobble Hill puzzles are generally affordable, with prices ranging from $15 to $25 for most designs. While they may be slightly more expensive than some other brands, the high-quality materials and unique designs justify the cost.
