My Confident Puzzler Difficulty Rating: Medium

This is one of five puzzles in Heye’s Floral Friends Collection. The others, Sweet Squirrel, Cuddly Panda, Gentle Bruin, and Pretty Feline, are all 1000 pieces. And they all are adorable!

Quality: One big minus - loose piece fit. One smaller minus, No poster. The full illustration is on the box top, but part of the illustration is covered with signage. My solution is to find the full pictured puzzle on any seller on line, take a screen shot, crop and size to letter size and print it out. It will be larger than the box pic and complete. Otherwise, inside the sturdy box was a sealed bag of pieces and a small catalogue. There was no puzzle dust. The solid pieces had a slight sheen. None were together uncut, none were damaged, and none were missing. There were no false fits (* this time, see Construction).

Getting started: Find the edge pieces and sort by color. I always sort beyond color where applicable, so aside from the background, I sorted the shirt, the shadow under the chin, the facial features, the light fur, dark fur, flower pieces, and greenery pieces.

Construction: *Having completed three others in the series, and encountering false fits each time, I did not build the entire frame first. The bottom edge contained the shirt, so I pieced that part of it. Then I built the puzzle from the bottom up. The piecing took time — most went together piece by piece rather than building sections, so the loose piece fit was only mildly annoying. The only thing I did piece in sections were the facial features. I had to do that on paper so I could move and slide those into place once I could connect them to the face. When the flowers were done I filled in the background and lastly the edge pieces. This puzzle build flowed nicely, I always saw progress. It was loads of fun!

Final thoughts: Loose piece fit, and even false fits seem to occur over brands, so those won’t keep me from recommending the Heye brand. Their collection is numerous and includes a variety of artistic styles, as well as some very busy and challenging ones. Busy is not my favorite style, but there is definitely something for everyone in their selection. As for Floral Friends — they surely would look great is a young child’s room. Check these out! (Pretty Feline is still waiting to be done.)
