My Confident Puzzler Difficulty Rating: Heavenly Simple

Such an adorable painting. It certainly would have a big impact for only 300 pieces. And, it made me smile. I considered framing it, since it would fit a ready made 27” X 20” frame. Um, not so much. I should have paid more attention to “approx.” This is the second JaCaRou that ended up measuring longer than 27”. The first one was 1000 pieces. Do not put just the frame together and measure it. I learned that from this experience. Apparently the size grew as more pieces were added. Treating puzzling like tiling, where one must account for grout lines, who would have thought? Just a warning, all that aside, this was absolutely a fun puzzle to complete.

Quality: Acceptable. Piece fit was very loose. The complete illustration is on the sturdy box top. Inside was a resealable bag of pieces. No poster is included but color match pieces to box top was very good. There was some puzzle dust. The pieces are shiny. Some of them had pealing corners, some did not lie flat. No pieces were together uncut and none were missing.

Getting started: Find the edge pieces and sort by color. Even though this was a lower piece count, the image was busy enough to consider some object sorting. I pulled out the chef hat, the face, the hair, the wings, the dress, the red lining, the leggings, the shoes, the cupcake, and heart topper. Helpful hint — there is no blue in that list - it makes up the “Little angel of love” and her cake. So, everything with blue is background, I pulled out the words and did some sorting by color for that.

Construction: I built the frame first. That offered a lot of color information. I started with the chef’s hat and built the angel. Then I filled in the background. Each huge piece fell into place very easily - so much fun!!!

Final thoughts: XXL pieces - certainly easy to handle. A boon for people who have lost dexterity. So many brands carry them now. It’s a good thing.

My grades: Quality B+, Fun factor A+
