My Confident Puzzler Difficulty Rating: Moderate

This is the Elmira Valley Park pedestrian walkway in Kuala Lumpur, the capital city of Malaysia. It is an example of Parametric Architecture - using algorithms to design and generate shapes and forms that have a curving nature. The designer’s possibly brilliant

idea is fed into a computer program to answer the question, “will this building stand up?”

This jigsaw is an example of the puzzling process in all its glory - an illustration cut up in pieces, a combination of challenge and fun. No computer generated algorithms are used to put a puzzle together; puzzlers can take all the credit for a successful build! For this 300 piece image, it won’t take too long to reach that pleasurable sense of accomplishment while clearing the mind, experiencing calm, and enjoying a good time!

Quality: Excellent if not perfect. There were a couple slightly damaged pieces easily repaired with a dab of glue, and a little puzzle dust. Otherwise, it was a sturdy, attractive, if unusually shaped, box of fun! No shrink wrap, just two removable, clear stickers. A partial illustration wraps around the box top. Inside is a reusable zip close bag of colorful, solid pieces that perfectly color match the large enclosed poster. They have some sheen; it did not affect room light puzzling. There were no false fits, piece fit was pick up off the table tight. No pieces were together uncut and none were missing.

Getting started: Find the edge pieces and sort by color. For this puzzle, sorting by color does a good job. Lots of striped pieces! But they are easily sorted by their dominant color. Then the striped sidewalk which I divided up by width of the stripes, and then the few odd pieces that made up the far end of the walkway, and I set aside the three piece pedestrian.

Construction: I built the frame first, it offered tons of color information to get started. I worked this puzzle from the bottom on upward. Yes, all those curving stripes were pretty tricky, but so much fun! The completed illustration was impactful, and definitely elicited satisfaction!

Final thoughts: Yet again, Buffalo Games delivered a wonderful puzzling experience. It is a well established company, with an amazingly large and varied selection of designs, and very competitive pricing. Nothing fancy, no “designer” level packaging or price tags, just puzzles, but you won’t be stymied and disappointed by poor quality. Possibly they consider the Blanc line, in the distinctive box, higher end, but it is not noticeably reflected in the price. Think about it - when you pour that bag of pieces on the table, what are the most important things that should happen next? These puzzles always make me happy (okay, except for the one that had a missing piece), but even their replacement policy is more than fair.

My Grades: Quality A, Fun Factor A++
