My Confident Newbie Difficulty Rating: Easy

This was the first puzzle I’ve done from the Zozoville series. All the characters are depicted as non-human beings doing human activities. They are clever, curious, humorous, outrageous - all elicit a smile. In my opinion this one is the most endearing of them all.

Quality: Only one issue — loose piece fit. Not the worst I’ve encountered, but please don’t try a puzzle pick up. Otherwise all aspects were acceptable. The sturdy box has the full illustration, with good color match to the pieces, on the top. A good thing since inside there is only a sealed bag of pieces and a small catalogue; no poster is included. There was minimal puzzle dust. The solid pieces have some sheen. Most traditional shapes were represented but the majority were the 2 in / 2 out variety. There were no false fits. None of the pieces were damaged, none were together uncut, none were missing.

Getting started: Find the edge pieces and sort by color. I always try to sub-sort out specific items and areas. Sorting out the bedspread, the character, and it’s eyes and mouth, were easy. I made an attempt to sort out the floor, but ultimately the back wall got mixed in with it. I sorted lighter brown and darker brown, the mirror, the paintings, and the pillow with the tooth. Along the way I found the toothpaste, the slippers, and the characters arms and legs.

Construction: I built the frame. It offered a lot of color information. I started with the bedspread, then pieced together the character. The rest fell into place more easily than expected. The trickiest area was the dark wall. Building this puzzle was definitely fun!!

Final thoughts: Just look at that face. I hope this little creature gets its tooth fairy wish. I’ve done five Heye puzzles — the other four had 1000 pieces. They all had loose piece fit, 3 had false fits. None had missing pieces. They were chosen because I liked the illustration; they all presented satisfying challenge. There are so many different styles. Despite the quality offenders, I feel comfortable recommending the brand.

My grades: Quality A-. Fun factor A+
