My Confident Newbie Difficulty Level: Delightfully Easy

This relaxing and fun little puzzle features the art of Janet Hill. If you remember having one of these bathing caps, well, you are, um, mature. I know I had one. I suppose it was the nostalgia feature that made me buy it. Is a 100 piece puzzle silly for a practiced puzzler? I do not think so. At a leisurely pace it will be done in less than an

hour. Short enough for a quick puzzle break, long enough for the process to clear the mind and find some moments of calm. A respite, a regroup, a little bit of fun - it’s a good thing.

Quality: Just one minus - loose piece fit. For only 100 pieces that’s not much of a bother. Otherwise, it’s all fine. This is packaged in a sturdy little box (4” x 4” x !.5”). It has the full illustration on the top, and inside, a sealed bag of pieces. There was no puzzle dust. The solid pieces are virtually matte, and perhaps somewhat larger than those in their higher piece count offerings. None were damaged or together uncut, and none were missing.

Getting started: Find the edge pieces and sort by color. Yes, even with these few pieces I did all that. Why not?

Construction: The only part of the frame I built to begin with was the middle part of the bottom. That was enough to piece together the lovely lady pondering her new acquisition. The middle pieces at the top of the frame gave a place to start adding flowers. Without any deliberate rushing through it, from sorting to completion took 50 minutes. I have done 110 puzzles in the past 15 months — this was the first time I bothered to look at the clock. Puzzling is not a race!

Final thoughts: New York Puzzle Company has a large selection of these little gems. What is really nice about them is the price (under $10), and the size. They have a presence when completed. There are actually picture frames that measure 9” x 7”. Because of the unfortunate loose piece fit, you will need to tape the puzzle back, so piece it together on a sturdy card, place another on top and flip it over. I use 2” painters tape. I’m planning to get more and switch them out whenever the mood strikes. Like now! (This little grouping actually sits in front of a mirror, bad for a photo)
