For our third puzzle, Mom chose our very first Mordillo puzzle to do. Neither one of us had ever done one of his designs before. This was a recent purchase from Odyssey Fine Puzzles (shameless plug for them, lol), and I was really looking forward to doing this fun one. I also had a 2000 piece puzzle in my box, but Mom said that was a hard no!

After getting all of the pieces spread out and turned right side up and the edge pieces set off to one side, we picked our starting points. Mom was drawn to the adorably lanky giraffe, and I settled on the sleepy (flirty? bored? hungover?) crocodile/alligator fella. I segued to the bright green grass in the foreground, with the cheeky photographer. I also got the snake sections and the little turtle at the feet of the giraffe done. Eventually, we got down to the very end, with a little help at the end from Mom’s brother who stopped in for a visit on his way home to California. Twice, we thought that we were missing pieces, but I found one upside down on top of a completed part of the puzzle, and Mom found the last piece under one of our chairs. We did have a bonus duplicate piece, so if anyone has this puzzle and are missing the lower left corner piece, I have it!

This puzzle was a lot of fun to do. It wasn’t easy, but it was challenging enough to be doable and was a lot of fun. I am already looking forward to doing another one of his puzzles! This is a Heye puzzle, with beautiful, thick pieces that feel really good in your hand. The linen finish grid cut pieces were great to work with, although a few of the pieces would fit in more than one spot. In fact, I removed one misplaced piece only to find it put back in the same wrong spot, lol. There were no missing pieces, no cut issues, virtually no puzzle dust, and a good fit, although we had to use Mom’s handy junk mail if we were moving any completed sections into place. There was no poster included but we never really needed it. I would recommend this puzzle to anyone, but novice puzzlers might take awhile to put this one together. You will have no lack of supervisors if you decide to do this puzzle, because there are so many watching you!
