My Confident Puzzler Difficulty Rating: Moderately Challenging

This was not the most difficult puzzle I have ever done, but there were some tricky aspects that most definitely required patience and concentration. Above all it offered satisfying and pleasurable accomplishment as it came together - piece, by piece, by piece.

Quality: Excellent! Pick up off the table tight fit, no false fits, no damaged pieces, none together uncut, none missing. The sturdy box has the full illustration on the top. Inside there was a reusable bag of pieces, but no poster. Color match pieces to box pic was very good. There was the tiniest bit of puzzle dust. The pieces have some sheen - not enough to hinder room light puzzling.

Getting started: Find the edge pieces and sort by color. No question I planned to build the frame first. At first glance sorting looked pretty straight forward, but once I began, the tricky parts showed up very quickly. I do sort by color, but then I sub sort out objects and distinguishable areas of texture and design. Green — it felt like there were 20 painterly shades of color in those shutters! Those pots and the window ledge became one sort, as did the skin. Then the shirt, the white flowers and yellow centers, the yellow, the yellow orange, the orange, the red hair. During the sorting, the one and only pieced sections I built were the eyes, nose and mouth. Oh boy I said, this could be a nightmare!

Construction: I did build the frame first, and started filling in from the bottom. That flower pot and ledge sort went together fairly quickly. Next the shirt, the hand and cup, and the skin up through the face. There was still a lot to do, but I was feeling confident! What I thought would be a pain were all those crisscrossing stems and bits of ephemera - in truth they were helpful, more so than lining up the pieces by shape. Now I was just having fun with it. One big help was finding the vertical inside shutter frame pieces. So I filled in the shutters. The flowers happened as I went along. Next came the curly hair, lined up by shade and piece shape. And finally the yellow and orange background, also lined up by color and shape.

Final thoughts: I do not watch the clock, but this puzzle took more time than others. And it was over 5 days because of other commitments. But, when I did find time, I could not wait to get back to it. I can absolutely recommend this adorably sweet puzzle!

My grades: Quality A+, Fun Factor A++
