When I began my Puzzle hobby just a few months ago, I started with 500 pieces. I hadn’t touched a jigsaw in maybe 15 years, so 1000 pieces felt way too ambitious. But, that seemed to be the minimum count for serious puzzlers, and I was determined to take my new adventure seriously. After two 500 piece and one 750 piece, I graduated to 1000. Then I read this: “In general: Jigsaw puzzle time is quadratic: Double the number of pieces, quadruple the time. Triple the number of pieces, 9 times the time.”

So I’ve put some 500 piece puzzles in my stash, not because they would be easier, but because the gratification of seeing the completed puzzle would come more quickly. I’m still pretty slow as it is — I have never finished a 500 piece puzzle in a day. And definitively not this Dowdle puzzle!

Eric Dowdle is an amazing artist. He expanded his talent to the jigsaw puzzle market. He travels the world and turns sketches into the artwork style you see here. An amazing collection featuring cities, parks, monuments, historical buildings and more, and even classic literature and tales for young and old alike. So much detail in the worlds he pictures. In the puzzle world, it is called “busy”. Not always the case, but in this puzzle the structures had fairly distinct

coloring, so sorting them out by color was a big help. Then, of course there were those piles of bushes and people and greenery — yikes!

It actually came together pretty quickly (for me) - counting the sorting time, breaks, and sleep, 2 1⁄2 days. It had some challenges, but no frustrations. It was fun! Generally speaking, I do not like “busy” puzzles. Actually, I avoid them. But this was a scene, not a bunch of disorderly things haphazardly thrown together as an illustration, and given a collective title. As a puzzle, I get the challenge factor, but . . . I have an eclectic stash of puzzles now, they certainly are not all “fine art”. But they all are something I thought was attractive, or clever or at the least had some order to the design.

I will purchase other Dowdle puzzles. I so appreciate his talent. But to get back on track with this review, these puzzles are worth it! No puzzle dust, sturdy attractive box including a poster and resealable bag, sturdy pieces that practically put themselves in their correct place, no missing, bent or separating pieces, fit was a bit loose but not annoying, bright colors, no fuzzy reproduction areas, minor sheen on the surface. As an added bonus, the areas of interest are numbered and described on the back of the poster. No puzzlement here — I give this Jigsaw an A+
