My (advancing) Newbie difficulty rating: Easy to Medium

Just get this little gem! It was interesting and satisfying and curious and amazing and fun to watch it come together!

Quality: Tight piece fit - yes! Pick up perfection. The well made, attractive box is small, no shrink wrap. Inside there was a small poster and a sealed bag of sturdy pieces. There was virtually no puzzle dust. Color match picture to piece was dead on. None of the pieces were damaged in any way and none were missing. They do have a bit of sheen. There is only one piece shape — 2 ins and 2 outs. They do vary enough that there were no false fits, but otherwise your only clue is they alternate from horizontal to vertical placement.

Construction: Pretty straightforward - find the edge pieces and sort by color. The frame was not difficult to build, but offers only a modest amount of color information. Here’s a surprise to those who read my reviews — I did no sub sorting, but I did organize the pieces by color tone and tall and wide orientation. The bottom three to four rows were simple enough to build and gave a lot of information to go forward.

Yes, it is sort of a gradient, but not in the true sense of full spectrum. In a traditional gradient puzzle no piece would be half black and half bright green. And all those little stars were not that helpful an indication that pieces would go together. So many times, I picked up a piece and said that can’t possibly go there, but it did. I just loved watching the unexpected transitions happen and make sense.

Relatively speaking, the right hand side was easier than the left and upper portions, but it still took time and patience. Nine months into this hobby, and 50 puzzles under my belt, I’m just more confident I can complete a puzzle. I’m probably not measurably better at the process. That’s fine. I do not keep track of my time, and admit to still being a slow puzzler, but I started and finished this puzzle in daylight today. I usually take a lot of breaks, but today I could not leave this puzzle alone for very long at all.

I can only repeat — get this little gem! I had so much fun!!
