This Dusty Plains puzzle has so few 'elements' to it that I found it to be easier than I expected. I was really procrastinating over attempting this one but those beasts kept calling me. Finally their turn came up on the 'list' so I dug into my commitment. I was pleasantly surprised. I did the sky based on shades then that left areas to assemble in black, gold fur, soft brown skin, dark hills, golden field with areas of bluish flower/weeds. DONE! |

I have switched up from using foam boards for sorting. Since I have established that the Grateful House jigsaw puzzling trays can hold a 1000 piece puzzle laid out, (using the lid for the border pieces) I find it convenient to layout my sorting process as shown in the images. I set up the 8 trays plus the lid and the box of puzzle pieces in the centre to sort according to colours or details. I do the border on my foam board working area first so I can put the lid on the trays for movement. On the upper right side you can see the poster which is a very nice size and you can see the image area under the Company logo on the front of the box. |
For the border the top is a pinkish sunset which runs halfway down the sides. The bottom has the darkish weeks and the sides are combined with golden field and dark hills. This is where I was thinking, 'yep, this is going to take longer than my usual timing for a 1000 Piece Puzzle which is around 10 hours. SO I went into this one expecting that to happen.
First off, you should know that I did a really 'solid' sort when it came to colours and patterns on the pieces. I don't normally start with the cloudy sky, but for some reason it seemed to be the easier place to start because it had that most definitive orange line starting just above the dark hills on the left and right sides. It was a small amount to start with but it got me going. Then I found myself looking at the different shades of the sky and suddenly it seemed like putting a 'rainbow' type areas together. I simply followed the colour shades which led to the darker clouds and lighter centre area. That let to the dark hills and that let to the beasts themselves.
It appears that I was able to assemble this one from top to bottom because of the difference in the treelike and water reflection Next it was the Bison I assembled. The heads were tricky but the areas were small and the colours had blue/grey strokes on them. That followed the gold fur, light brown skin and the 'dusty' area under their bellies.
After the Bison were assemble, I was left with the golden fields and close up weed. They were quite definitive as some had the thin lines with bluish weeds versus the golden field area.
The following are some nice close up images that show the shapes of the jigsaw puzzle pieces and the massive bodies on these beasts!
This is the first time I have assemble artwork by Rosemary Millette that Cobble Hills Puzzle Company sells. I am very pleased to say the Dusty Plains puzzle looked terrific on the table as I am very impressed with artwork which gave me a closeup look at these mammoths!
