Hometown Christmas Puzzle

This Dowdle Hometown Christmas puzzle is a little on the dark side as the image is a night scene but I still enjoyed assembling it. This is a 500 piece puzzle and I can 'average' about 100 pieces per hour but this one took eight hours. This scene pretty much covers all the Christmas and winter activities we may experience during the season resembling many 'Hometown' memories. I do not recall ever experiencing a sleigh ride or having a bon fire during the winter but I think both would have been very nice.

HometownChristmas Puzzle Assembly

I did my usual sorting routine.

  1. Sorting to locate all  the outside border pieces, while....
  2. Placing the pieces into the 'general-color' piles.
  3. Then I carried on with a second round of sorting (similar colors sorted by shades/patterns) while placing the pieces flat out on the poster boards.

The border was tricky to complete due to the dark colors. A good portion of this image is dark due to the scene being a night theme.

I had yellows and blues to start assembling the snow-ice and lines on buildings to complete the main portion of the top half.

That left the 2 buildings on each side which were quite similar.

Hometown Christmas Puzzle Comments...

The finish is always nice on these Dowdle jigsaw puzzles. The Hometown Christmas puzzle image full size looks dark but when assembling the pieces, as you can see below, there is bright outlines on the details that were helpful.

This was a Thrift store purchase with no missing pieces however the cut was really quite loose and the pieces dropped into place and there was no moving sections of attached pieces. They had to be moved and placed one at a time (sadly of course). Hopefully that was due to it being assembled quite often.

I have also had the pleasure of assembling The Gingerbread House and the House of Seven Gables Dowdle puzzles. I have been doing Dowdle puzzles for years and they have a wonderful product that is packaged securely. The artwork scenes and topics come in such a variety.
